The information below is collected from state licensure boards or regulatory agencies responsible for regulating the professions of audiology and/or speech-language pathology in the state of Washington. ASHA Pathway: The ASHA CCC is accepted as proof of meeting requirements for licensure for both professions.

Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Master’s or doctoral degree
  • Supervised clinical practicum
  • 36-week full-time or part-time equivalent postgraduate professional work experience
  • National exam

Audiologists may dispense hearing aids under an audiology license.

Continuing Education: 30 hours every three years

ASLP-IC: Washington is not a member state of the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). Information on the current status of the ASLP-IC can be found on the ASLP-IC website.

Telepractice: Providers must hold a state license and adhere to the same requirements as in-person practice and follow the Board’s guidance [PDF] and the Department’s guidance.

Temporary Practice for Out-of-State Providers: No provisions.

Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Master’s degree
  • 15 clock hours or 10 semester hours of course work approved by the Professional Educator Standards Board within one year after application or completion of a state-approved program leading to certification as a speech-language pathologist
  • Completion of a written comprehensive exam

Continuing Education: 100 clock hours or equivalent college credits or professional growth plans or a combination of any of the three options; or ASHA CCC

Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist

  • State license
  • Educational Staff Association Certificate from the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction

Audiology Assistant

Health Care Setting

  • Not regulated

School Setting

  • Not regulated

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

Health Care Setting

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree
  • 100 hours supervised work experience

School Setting

  • Not regulated

Continuing Education: 30 hours every three years
